Wittenberg

In Wittenberg we stayed a few days in a youth hostel right next to Castle church, the place where Martin Luther posted his 95 thesis. You cam see a picture of the door today. This event is often thought of as the beginning of the Reformation of the church. Luther's 95 thesis described ways he felt the church had gone wrong in there theology and practices. For example, he criticizes the churches use of indulgences as a way to get money. He challenged people to find there authority in the Bible instead of the pope. The second pic is of Luther's home. He lived in an old monastery. The land was given to him as a gift. He would often host up to 50 people in his home at one time. The city had beautiful cobble stone streets and the stores were decorated with flowers.
